Swirled Christmas Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup red and green sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two parts. Add red food coloring to one part and green to the other, mixing until the colors are evenly distributed.
  6. Roll out each color into logs and twist them together to form a swirled effect.
  7. Slice the logs into cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Sprinkle with colored sprinkles before baking.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For softer cookies, do not overbake.
  • Feel free to adjust food coloring to your preference.
