  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, cream together sugar and butter until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in apples and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If using, fold in walnuts.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a sweeter taste, increase the sugar to 1 1/4 cups.
  • Use a mix of different apples for added flavor.
